We Have Monarch Caterpillars!

It’s very exciting to see that we have Monarch caterpillars in the Waystation next to the Hawks’ garden.

The Waystation was planted as a feeding ground for the Monarch Butterfly, that makes its way through our town from the fall onwards.

And tucked away within Waystation are a few Monarch caterpillars which are happily munching on some successful Milkweed plants!

We’re so happy they thought our nook was a great place for them.

These caterpillars munch on the milkweed for a couple of weeks, then turn in to a chrysalis before emerging as a beautiful Monarch butterfly.

Monarchs will return here in the fall from anywhere east of the Rockies, when the Golden Rod plants in the Waystation are in bloom to enjoy their nectar and the warmer temperatures.
