Over 400 seeds planted!

Students have planted over 400 seeds as part of Seed Planting Day, starting off the fun process for the Plant Sale in May…

Record number of students and seeds!

So many teachers signed up their students that they sewed even more seeds than last year - Go Hawks! 💚

Plants to look forward to include delicious vegetables and herbs such as Tomato, Basil, Peppers and Lettuce and gorgeous flowers like

Cosmos, Zinnia, Marigolds and Wildflowers!

These seedlings will grow into strong and tall plants and will be sold at the Plant Sale at the Spring Social in May.

See how they did it…

Coconut soil? Yes that’s right!

This coconut coir growing medium will help the seedlings do their thing.

It needs less water than plain soil and the nutrients inside will help our seeds get off to a great start.

Watch the cool video at the end of this post!

Next steps…

The seeds are now in their cozy new greenhouse home being nurtured by the sun and a kind watering hand, thanks to Sara Kroeger.

Want to be a part of this?

Join us for a few Transplanting Days in the coming weeks as these seedlings grow and grow and need bigger homes!

Watch out for another Seed Planting Day (date tbc). We’ll be seeding those that take less time to grow, such as Cucumber, and some for the fall such as Pumpkin!

Last up, THANK YOU to our awesome team of volunteers!

Angela Movafaghi, July Johnson, Lisa Griffin, Nash Zamzow, Jonathan Shambroom, Anchalee Kanda (and for your delicious Spring Rolls, yum), and Jenine Wolfe for your support.
This couldn’t have happened without you all.

Teachers Thanks for bringing your students!

Mike Strasser and Jen Zamzow Our fab Year Book Photo duo.

Jennifer Shambroom For continuing to organize this special day.

Special shout out to NC Campus Support, Sara Kroeger, for taking the time and care to look after these growing seedlings in her greenhouse over the next few weeks!

Now for the cool Coconut Coir magic.

Some of the kids got to watch this happen right in front of their eyes!
